Today is the first time I have ever been away from my dad on his birthday. He is the one who taught me to be an independent lady--who told me that I could shoot a jumpshot like the boys, could earn my way to college through my brain, could do anything I set my mind to. So today's post is a tribute to my amazing father by taking... a Journey for Joey.
| It all begins... "not where but when" in May 2015, when I landed in Earl's Court and found a mysterious blue box. I began gathering my companions (getting a few extra since the job expectancy seems to be a tad uncertain). |
| I wondered if perhaps I should go in, although I was a little confused that you have to push when the sign clearly says "pull to open." However, I had heard the stories that the 13th Doctor was in America, so I knew I had to find a way to get there. |
| Going in, I discovered it was "smaller on the outside." I was a little frightened to see what might happen, but I had to find my doctor. |
| On my way, I stopped at the sight of the Battle of Canary Wharf, where the 10th Doctor lost his companion Rose. I found a few pieces of Cybermen, one with 59 bolts left. I think my Doctor left it for me as a sign. |
| My companion Candace and I encountered some turbulence going across the Atlantic, where I almost fell out of the TARDIS. It was a close call (thank goodness for the air bubble or I would have had a really bad hair day afterwards). |
| Due to the narrow escape earlier, I decided to try to find some reinforcements. I found my centurion at the Roman Baths (he said to tell my Doctor happy birthday from BC). Even though Rory had some biceps, my adventure would not be complete without my doctor. We dialed the phone 59 times, but Europe has pretty bad cell signal. |
| Bringing in the big guns, I found the 10th doctor and his canine companion. They agreed to follow along on the hunt for #13. |
| While the 10th doctor took canine for a walk, I was attacked by a Dalek! He said he was hunting for the new Doctor, too, and he was going to use me as blackmail. He said he was gong to EXTERMINATE us all. I refused to help, and just as he was aiming for my head.... |
| ...The Doctor's other daughter (my long lost twin!) beamed down and kicked some Dalek butt. He was just a pile of bolts when she was done with him (59 to be exact). Look at that face--she means business. Thanks sis! |
| Suddenly, I realized I have had my 13th Doctor all along. Even though the TARDIS is being remodeled until the 25th, I am relieved to know my journey has ended with success. He will always be my clever boy! |
So, even though the quote says "not where but when," on this
when I would give anything I had to take a TARDIS to
where you are. Happy 59th Birthday, Daddy. I miss you so much, and thank you for being the best. I can't wait to come home and binge watch Doctor Who, but most importantly, spend time with you.
P.S.: The white sign in these pictures is the same piece of paper everytime. It has traveled through London with me, and I think just about every salesperson and character in this city knows it is your birthday (and they all send their best wishes). Thanks for being with me even 4,000 miles away.
Michele,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for such a wonderful birthday gift. I can't believe you carried that sign everywhere! Thank your friends that helped. I love you so much and am very proud of the strong, smart, independent young lady you are. I think Virginia Woolf would be proud too.
What a grand tribute to your dad this is!
